National Undergraduate Emergency Conference 2013

With a range of lectures on topics such as blast injuries and military strategies to limit damage, interactive small-group seminars including “red phone” simulation, and practical workshops on lumbar puncture and central line insertion, NUEC 2013 was a fantastic weekend of teaching on many aspects of Emergency Medicine. The conference ranged from first year students interested in basic clinical biochemistry to final year students looking to improve their knowledge of obs & gyn and paediatric emergencies.

Teaching was provided by experts in the field of emergency medicine and surgery such as chair of the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch Mr Jerry Overton, Territorial Army surgeon Lt Col Alasdair MacMillan, and Cambridge graduate and paediatric trainee Dr Keir Shiels (of “Junior Doctors: Your Life in Their Hands” fame).

The conference also included a poster competition to give students the opportunity to present their original research in any medical or surgical field.
